Abstract Sr2-x-yB5O9Cl:xEu2+, yTb3+ blue phosphors were synthesized by solid-state reaction method. The crystal structure was analyzed, and the factors affected the PL intensity of Sr2B5O9Cl phosphors were investigated. The optimal conditions to obtain the blue emitting phosphor are 8% (molar fraction) Eu2+ concentration, 8% Tb3+ concentration, 30% excess of flux H3BO3 and 900℃ reaction temperature; For single-doped Eu2+, the concentration quenching mechanism is electric dipole-electric dipole interaction mechanism and the concentration quenching critical distance is about RC=1.71 nm; Furthermost, there is a strong absorption in the region of 230–410 nm.
