Abstract Structurally ordered ethane-bridged periodic mesoporous organosilicas (PMOs) have been facilely prepared with the assistance of ZrOCl2–NaCl salt pair using nonionic P123 (EO20PO70EO20) as the structure-directing agent, and was thoroughly characterized by advanced techniques as such SAXS, HRTEM, N2–adsorption/desorption isotherms and solid state 13C CP/29Si CP MAS NMR etc.. The results indicated that the present material possess highly ordered hexagonal structure and organic-inorganic hybrid network, and thus illustrating the effective function of salt pair in the assembly of PMO material under the studied synthesis system.
