Abstract The situation of the development of steels used for large crude storage tanks was introduced in this article.The corrosion features of the oil storage tanks were presented and the corrosion mechanisms of the sediment waters was analyzed,which were considered to be similar with that of the seawater corrosion,therefore the studies on the later should be of great significance of reference to the former.On the basis of the research means and the relevant research findings about the seawater corrosion, several suggestions concerning the further research directions on the corrosion of steels for storage tanks were put forward.
